Entitled A Recreational Paradise, the article describes the Sebago lake region: “Tucked between the Atlantic Ocean and the White Mountains, the Lakes Region of Maine earns its name from the more than 50 lakes scattered among green rolling hills near Sebago Lake, less than half an hour northwest of Portland. Sebago Lake is the second largest lake in the state, covering 45 square miles. Visitors come to the area to enjoy the water: to swim, fish, boat, water ski, windsurf, canoe, kayak, and parasail; and to camp, hike, collect minerals, and golf.

Among the popular smaller lakes nearby are Panther Pond, Little Sebago, Long Lake, Thompson Lake, Coffee Pond, Brandy Pond, Long Lake, Moose Pond, Pleasant Lake, and Crescent Lake. Windham, Raymond, Standish, Bridgton, Brownfield, Casco, Denmark, Fryeburg, Harrison, Lovell, Naples, Sebago, Gray, Stow, Sweden and Waterford are all towns in the Lakes Region….”

“Not far from Sebago Lake (approximately 5 miles from the junction of Routes 11 and 121) lies beautiful Crescent Lake. Unfortunately, the beach is open to residents only, but the views of the lake and surrounding area are worth the drive. To reach Crescent Lake, follow Route 302 through North Windham and into Raymond, turn right onto Route 85 (across from a rest area), and follow for 5 - 6 miles.

Wilkie Beach on Crystal Lake in Gray is open to the public and also offers a boat ramp. From downtown Gray, take Route 26 for 3 miles to Dry Mills. Turn left onto North Raymond Road and go 1/4 mile.

Tassel Top on Sebago Lake in Raymond is also open to the public and offers a nice beach and views of the lake. Finally, off Route 302 between Naples and South Casco is Sebago Lake State Park, a great way to enjoy Sebago Lake.” Read the article in its entirety by clicking on the following link: http://portlandme.about.com/cs/cruisessailing/a/SebagoRegion.htm
